It’s time to get rid of ragweed!
Ragweed season is upon us. Sneezing, tearing eyes, nasal congestion, coughs, itchy nose and asthma attacks are symptoms endured by those with seasonal allergies. There are many of them. Where ragweed is present in Québec regions, one in five people is allergic to the plant’s pollen.
Protective measures for people with allergies
If you are allergic to ragweed, there are simple measures to take that can help reduce its effects:
- Avoid going to places infested with ragweed;
- Avoid outside activities, especially between 7:00am and 1:00pm when
the weather is warm, dry and windy. After it rains, pollen spores fall to the ground which reduces allergic reactions; - Avoid mowing the lawn yourself;
- Avoid drying your clothes outside;
- Avoid contact with other irritants that can increase allergic symptoms
(e.g.: tobacco smoke); - When possible, leave windows closed to prevent pollen from entering the
house; - Use air conditioning or an air filtration system.
