Family, child and youth services

Services are offered by a team composed of social practitioners, nurses, psychoeducators, social workers, speech therapists, specialized educators, community workers, community organizers, dental hygienists, nutritionists, family and social assistants and students.

Services for babies and children and their parents

  • Prenatal follow-up and classes
  • Nurse's visit following the birth of a baby
  • Support and education concerning the care and feeding of the baby
  • Regular vaccinations of babies and children
  • Monitoring of growth and development
  • Support for new immigrant families
  • Short-term in-home help following a birth (for specific cases)
  • Screening for developmental delays and early stimulation activities
  • Nutritional follow-up for children with specific needs
  • Groups for parents and babies 0-12 months

Services in schools

  • Prevention activities for health problems and vaccination program
  • Prevention activities regarding social skills, group interaction and management of emotions
  • Educational group activities on health issues, growth and sexuality
  • Individual and family interventions for students experiencing situations that interfere with their learning
  • Dental hygiene

Services in the community

  • Assistance in the development of community organizations
  • Organization of educational programs for community resources
  • Support in the neighbourhood organization
  • Referrals to support groups, services and community activities

Services for families 

  • Support, counselling, family therapy and crisis intervention for families and youth experiencing difficulties in areas such as: adapting as a new arrival, adapting to different life stages, development phases of children, discipline and structure, lack of resources, family violence, illness, depression, suicide, drug use, etc.  

Services in daycares and respite daycares

  • Advice, observation and assistance in difficult cases with children
  • Intervention with children with specific needs (with permission from the parents)
  • Advice and prevention of health problems from a nurse (on call)
  • Support and exchange group for workers experiencing particularly difficult situations with certain children (The Learning Circle)

Youth Clinic (12 - 21 years)

  • Free and confidential services: issues related to sexuality, contraception, emergency contraceptive pill, pregnancy tests and counselling, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, personal and family problems, support for depression and anxiety, nutrition, drug and alcohol problems
  • The clinic team: nurse, youth counsellor, physician
  • Without appointment: Wednesday and Thursday, 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm, CLSC René-Cassin, 5800 Cavendish, 5th floor
